The United Kingdom -  A Land in Rebellion

A prophetic commentary in light of Glastonbury and Regent Street

pride - RSIntroduction

A couple of recent events in the United Kingdom have, in particular, pierced the spiritual atmosphere – two signs that are highly symbolic of the increasing darkness over our nation.

At Glastonbury, over the weekend, a musician incited the crowd to chant “Death to the IDF,” a slogan soaked in anti-Semitic undercurrents which was broadcast live by the BBC to a watching world.  Simultaneously, London’s iconic Regent Street, historically draped with Union Jacks and royal banners, was once again adorned with a sweeping parade of Pride flags in what has become an annual display.

Together, these moments speak prophetically of a nation in moral breakdown standing on the edge of chaos, and more solemnly, of a nation choosing alignment apart from the purposes of YHWH.

Is this merely political activism and cultural expression?  Or is something deeper stirring?  Through the lens of Scripture, particularly Jesus' parable of the wheat and the tares (Matt 13:24-30), these events cry out for interpretation.

The Wheat and the Tares: The Great Unveiling

“Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, ‘Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’” (Matt 13:30 ESV)

The shouting of “Death to the IDF” is not merely political rhetoric, as the band claim – it is spiritual rot made audible in the nation of the Balfour Declaration.

Jesus’ parable teaches that the wheat (children of the kingdom) and tares (sons of the evil one) grow together until the time of harvest.  Tares, or “zizania”, are nearly indistinguishable from wheat until they mature. when the fruit (or lack thereof) exposes their true nature.  This is a parable of discernment, not isolation.  But it also warns: harvest is coming.  A time of separation. Of reckoning.

In Britain today, the distinction between wheat and tares is becoming more visible.  The maturing of ideologies, spiritual forces, and moral positions, particularly as manifest in major cultural events, testifies to a ripening of the field.  The shouting of “Death to the IDF” is not merely political rhetoric, as the band claim – it is spiritual rot made audible in the nation of the Balfour Declaration. And the saturation of public space with Pride banners is not merely inclusivity, it is the enshrining of cosmic rebellion in the heart of national identity.

A Modern Echo of Ancient Hatreds

The death chant at Glastonbury, along with “From the river to the sea… Palestine will be free”… has to be seen prophetically, not just politically.  This is a direct attack on the covenant people of God – a time machine back to Nazi Germany.  Though the modern State of Israel is a complex, secular entity, the Jewish people remain irrevocably linked to divine purposes:
“As regards election they are beloved for the sake of their forefathers. For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable.” (Rom 11:28-29 ESV)

They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. They have become callous and have given themselves up to sensuality, greedy to practice every kind of impurity (Eph 4:18-10 ESV)

To publicly call for the destruction of the Israel Defence Force and for Palestine to be ‘freed’ of Jews is not political discourse but a manifestation of ancient hatred.  It is the spirit of Amalek (Ex 17:16), the genocidal aim of Haman (Est 3:6), and the satanic fury described in Revelation: “Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring...” (Rev 12:17 ESV)

The UK’s growing tolerance for overt anti-Semitism, masked as anti-Zionism, reveals a spiritual breach.

This spirit is not isolated to Glastonbury.  The UK’s growing tolerance for overt anti-Semitism, masked as anti-Zionism, reveals a spiritual breach.  To side with those who call for the annihilation of Israel, even if unintentionally, is to place oneself in dangerous alignment against God’s covenant people.

Regent Street and the Rainbow: The Pride Paradigm

Regent Street’s Pride flag display is more than cultural affirmation, it is a prophetic sign.  The rainbow, once a covenantal sign of God’s mercy (Gen 9:13), has been hijacked and reinterpreted to represent rebellion against divine order.

“Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them..”(Rom 1:32 ESV)

This mass celebration of Pride, endorsed by institutions, corporations, and government, is not neutral.  It is a liturgy of defiance, a declaration that God’s created order is optional and His moral statutes disposable.  It is a spiritual rebellion akin to Israel’s pursuit of Astarte.

But the prophetic parallel must be understood: as the rainbow once symbolised God's restraint from judgment, its contemporary use, ironically, may now signal a final warning before judgment falls.  Just as in the days of Noah:

“They were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark.” (Matt 24:38 ESV)

The glorification of Pride in public space is not freedom; it is spiritual captivity.

The nation walks in the days of Noah and Lot (Luke 17:26-30), where societal norms are redefined, and righteousness is mocked.  The glorification of Pride in public space is not freedom; it is spiritual captivity.

The UK's Spiritual Standing: Between Mercy and Judgment

The United Kingdom, once a cradle of global missionary movements and biblical literacy, now teeters on the brink of judgment.  Where Charles Spurgeon once thundered the gospel, now silence or compromise rules.  Where parliament once debated Scripture, now they legislate against its moral framework.

Consider the covenantal responsibilities of nations:
“Blessed is the nation whose God is YHWH...” (Ps 33:12 ESV)

“Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Prov 14:34 ESV)

By this standard, the UK has strayed.  From the top down, it has exalted sin and legislated rebellion.  But judgment is not always swift; it is often delayed for mercy’s sake (2 Pet 3:9). Yet there is a tipping point.  When the iniquity of a nation is full (Gen 15:16), God’s hand moves.
For although they knew God, they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools (Rom 1:21-22 ESV)

Many churches have lost their prophetic edge.  Afraid to speak truth in love, they embrace cultural accommodation.

Dr Michael Heiser would point to the cosmic geography at play: when nations align themselves with gods not of YHWH, they come under the influence of rebellious elohim (Ps 82:1-6).  The UK, by promoting lawlessness and hatred against Israel, is actively shifting its spiritual allegiance. The wheat and tares are separating.

Where Is the Church?

The most haunting silence in all of this is not from Westminster, but from the pulpits.  Many churches have lost their prophetic edge.  Afraid to speak truth in love, they embrace cultural accommodation.

“They have healed the wound of my people lightly, saying,                                                                ‘Peace, peace,’ when there is no peace.” (Jer 6:14 ESV)

Instead of intercession, we find entertainment.  Instead of mourning, marketing.  Yet Jesus said:

Has YHWH as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of YHWH?          Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of YHWH, he has also rejected you from being king." (1 Sam 15:22-23 ESV)

“You are the salt of the earth... but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored?” (Matt 5:13 ESV)

Now is the hour for the true Church, the remnant, the wheat, to stand.  Like Mordecai in the gate, like Elijah before Ahab, like John before Herod, there must be a prophetic voice.  Not reactionary, not partisan, but holy, uncompromising, Spirit-filled.

The Divine Response: Exposure and Harvest

“Let both grow together...” (Matt 13:30 ESV)

As in Esther 6, where the unseen hand of God overturned Haman’s schemes through mundane events, so now God is orchestrating exposure.

YHWH is allowing the wheat and tares to mature.  This means:
  1. Clarity is coming:  The righteous and the wicked will no longer be confused.
  2. Harvest is approaching: The sickle will swing, first for exposure, then for judgment.
As in Esther 6, where the unseen hand of God overturned Haman’s schemes through mundane events, so now God is orchestrating exposure.  The false will be revealed.  The real will be refined. The harvest is not far.

Life Applications for the Remnant

  1. Stay Rooted in the WordLet your discernment be shaped by Scripture, not social media.  “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Ps 119:105 ESV)
  2. Do Not Fear the CrowdEsther stood alone before a king; Elijah faced hundreds.  Truth is not measured by majority.  “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31 ESV)
  3. Intercede for the Nation. Like Daniel and Nehemiah, pray with repentance and urgency.  “Spare your people, O Lord!” (Joel 2:17 ESV)
  4. Prepare for Separation. Social, ecclesial, and spiritual separation are coming.  The wheat will stand tall; the tares will fall under judgment. “Come out of her, my people...” (Rev 18:4 ESV)
  5. Preach the Gospel Unashamedly. Only the cross can transform hearts.  Only Jesus can rescue tares and make them wheat.  “We preach Christ crucified...” (1 Cor 1:23 ESV)
  6. Trust God with Justice. Romans 12:19: “Beloved, never avenge yourselves…                          ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.” If you’ve been wronged, resist the desire for personal revenge. God’s justice is perfect and timely. Wait on Him. He can vindicate you in ways that no earthly courtroom or argument ever could.
  7. Pray with spiritual awareness. Ephesians 6:12: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against… spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” What you see is not all that is happening.
  8. Stay spiritually alert, especially when facing opposition or delays. Your struggles may be part of a greater cosmic narrative—and your prayers may be part of the solution.

The events at Glastonbury and Regent Street are not disconnected spectacles.  They are prophetic warnings

Conclusion: A Nation at the Crossroads

The events at Glastonbury and Regent Street are not disconnected spectacles.  They are prophetic warnings – two of many given to the nation over the years.  They act as a mirror held up to the soul of Britain.

Like ancient Israel, the UK stands at a spiritual crossroads: life or death, blessing or curse (Deut 30:19).  But YHWH still cries out: “Return to me, and I will return to you.” (Mal 3:7 ESV)

The wheat and tares grow together now.  But the wind is shifting.  The angels are preparing their sickles.  Let every believer examine their root.  Let every prophet cry aloud.  For the Lord of the Harvest is near, and His judgments are true.

These are very helpful reflections. Very useful for our prayer meetings.

"Instead of intercession, we find entertainment."

Echoes of Spurgeon, possibly deliberate? "The time will come when instead of shepherds feeding the sheep churches will have clowns entertaining the goats."

Thank you for this very well written article. I personally find your comments on "Life Applications for the Remnant" to be just what I needed. Very encouraging. It's a lonely journey but we pray on.

Thanks a million, Nick, for this very perceptive piece, sharp as a sickle, which I expect to be quoting from in the coming days (with all due credit, of course). Shabbat Shalom!

Thank you Nick. Clear, biblical and a needed prophetic commentary on the descent of our nation into deep rebellion. Your Life Applications for the Remnant are important for us all. I am increasingly reminded of Deuteronomy 28:28, "The Lord will afflict you with madness, blindness and confusion of mind." I think that this is as true a judgement on the UK as it was on ancient Israel.
Philip Thomas (Guest) 04/07/2025 15:10
Judgement must first begin at the house of God ( 1 Peter 4:17) however, I am reminded that God raised up the Chaldeans to chastise His people.
Maybe God has raised up Russia as an instrument of judgement against Europe i.e., Britain.
Judgement proceeds Revival.

A very timely piece,Written with Wise words,But will the Church wake up and head the warning

It is largely forgotten that The Church is Christ’s Church.
It is the very bride of Christ.
And for 60 years now, our national church has sold its very soul and for what ?
Why , just 30 pieces of Silver.
As our church leadership takes its lead from The World instead of the Bible, so we hear only of Social Justice.
Racial Justice.
Diversity, Equality and Inclusion.
Feminism on steroids.
As we are taught.
“Let The Wicked Continue To Be Wicked And The Righteous Remain Righteous”
Then will the Wheat and Tares be harvested.
Once only and for all time.

Why do you always dwell on the mega negative?
Can’t you rejoice in the fact that God has not turned his back on this Nation, just His Face.
Encourage Christians.
Revival is coming and Gods timing is perfect.
God wants this Nation to see what the wicked are doing, and then Revival.
