Through the Storm

Shining Like Stars

staRsRead Isaiah 30:26; Philippians 2:12-18; 1 Peter 2:9; Revelation 12:11.

I am privileged to live in a dark sky country area where, because of the absence of all artificial street-lighting, the night sky itself – the different constellations of the Milky Way and the occasional show of the magnificent aurora borealis - can be enjoyed in all its fulness. I have lost count of the number of nights I have simply stood outside and looked heavenward, overawed by the magnificent splendour
of the stars. It is a testimony to the Creator which the presence of the stars shouts aloud.

The promise of Jesus is that those who walk with Him [in covenant relationship] will carry the Light of Life (John 8:12). Our purpose is to let that light shine in the darkness. When the ‘lamps’ of our hearts are constantly being replenished with spiritual ‘oil’, then our witness to the goodness and love of God should see us standing out boldly for God in our ungodly nation in the same way the stars stand out against the dark night sky.

No-one can deny the encroaching spiritual darkness that is rapidly spreading its net over the whole world. It does not take much imagination to perceive that events foretold in scripture – especially the books of Daniel and Revelation – are unfolding before our eyes. So, it is highly likely that much might be demanded of us as time goes on, which is exactly why we have taken the time over the past weeks and months to reconsider what it means to be in a covenant relationship with God and the difference that should make to how we see ourselves, who we are in Him and how we live out our Christian walk.

it is highly likely that much might be demanded of us as time goes on ...

None of us can know with certainty what lies ahead for us. The only certainty is that we are called to be people whose presence makes a difference. Peter says we are to “…declare the praises of Him who called you out of darkness…” so that others can see it and find Him for themselves. Never in the whole of human history has the challenge for God’s Spirit-filled people to testify to Him been so great and the consequences of doing so, so crucial. We are literally in a battle between the Kingdom of Light and the dominion of darkness. While ultimately there is only one winner, there is much for the Church to contend with meanwhile.

Some prophetic scripture is multi-layered and may carry an interpretation for more than one era in time. One interpretation of Isaiah 30 and especially v26 is for the end-times. It depicts how God’s children have an abundance of His favour, provision and anointing whilst the rest of the earth is reeling, suffering judgment and affliction. The reference to seven full days is a picture of the Menorah (the fullness of Christ overflowing with the fullness of the Spirit) that will give a light like that of the sun but up to seven times brighter than ever before. Imagine - even seven times brighter than the light the believers carried at Pentecost as described in Acts 2!

This is the context for which I personally believe we are being prepared – an end-time move of God that will increase in strength and power until God has fulfilled all that is on His heart for it to do. The context for this move will be very dark – but the Light of Life we carry individually and corporately will be far greater and those who know their God will walk in His authority, having authentic power to overcome.

So, as the enemy concentrates on his plans, the true remnant Church will be busy with the King’s business: preaching with boldness; and seeing salvations, healings and miracles as commonplace.

So, as the enemy concentrates on his plans, the true remnant Church will be busy with the King’s business: preaching with boldness; and seeing salvations, healings and miracles as commonplace. Those captives whose lives have been radically set free will be those who will turn society upside down.

Additional reading: 2 Corinthians 4:4-6; Ephesians 2:10.

Prayer Time:
  • What is your reaction to today’s challenge?
  • What are your fears and/or concerns?
  • Are you afraid you will let God down?
  • Can you identify any particular ‘good work’ you sense God might have prepared in advance for you to do?

Spend time in worship, listening and sharing with your loving covenant Partner. Tell Him all your doubts and fears. He understands. He also promises never to leave you or forsake you.
