How Will They Hear – If Not From Us?
Preparing the Church for times of increasing social division and unrest
On July 7th 2010, I was part of a gathering of two hundred men and women with various leadership responsibilities in business, the professions, ministries, or church who met at the Emmanuel Centre in Westminster.
Sounding the alarm
This was not the usual type of meeting with a list of speakers and a tight agenda. We all came there relying upon the Holy Spirit to lead a meeting which was in line with the scripture Joel 2:15-17 – “Call a sacred assembly. Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders..."
This meeting was a follow-up to one that we had organised in a committee room in the House of Lords, where we believed that God was calling us to ‘sound the alarm’ about the state of this nation. The purpose of the Emmanuel Centre gathering was to listen to and discern what God was saying to His people about our nation and to call upon Him for His help and His mercy.
We all came there relying upon the Holy Spirit to lead a meeting which was in line with the scripture
We began with a truly anointed time of worship centred on Jesus, His love and His healing. This focus upon the Lord brought a deep sense of unity, which laid the foundation for what was to follow. Clifford Hill then read from Jeremiah 18:“If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned....” (7-10).
Rod of His anger
He reminded the meeting that it was five years that day since 53 people had died and seven hundred were injured when London underground trains and a bus were bombed by home-grown terrorists. He read Isaiah 10: 5-7, showing how God sent the Assyrians as the ‘rod of his anger’ against the godless nation of Israel. His intention was that they should plunder the idols that Israel worshiped.
But this was not what the attackers intended - their purpose was to destroy the nation. In the same way, God has sent Islam to Britain as the rod of His anger, as a witness against the Church. But the overall purpose is to take control of the nation. Clifford stated that in twenty years Islam would be dominant, with secular humanism preparing the way, unless the Church rises and responds to the call of God and the warning He gave us. These warnings have fallen on deaf ears; indeed the institutional Church has moved even further away from biblical truth and is providing little in way of biblically-based leadership.

Some months later, I wrote these words to then Prime Minister David Cameron on behalf of a coalition of Christian leaders, including Clifford Hill: “Prime Minister, it is 1939 again and the Jewish people face a mortal enemy in Hamas and its blind Islamist-inspired determination to destroy the State of Israel. May we plead with you to consider history and show courage in this matter. The push for a unilateral declaration of a Palestinian state at the U.N. General Assembly in September is gathering momentum and decisions the government makes will have enormous implications for us, for Israel, and for God’s world. I closed the letter with the warning from Isaiah 60:12. “For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you (Israel) will perish; it will be utterly ruined.”
UK’s covenant with death
A decade and a half later, Palestinian flags flutter in the breeze in many of our cities and towns whilst the flag of St George is now viewed as a symbol of rebellion by our tyrannical government, hell-bent it seems on implementing a foreign EU/UN/ globalist agenda that no-one voted for, and in the process fomenting rebellion.
Palestinian statehood is back on the agenda for the anti-Israel United Nations this month and I fear for the outcome if our government supports recognition of Palestine as a diplomatic push to impose a two-state solution. Support for dividing the land of Israel could bring further judgement on Britain in line with Joel 3:2.
As a nation we have continued to reject the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, and His precepts. Those who govern Britain seem to despise our heritage and are rejecting our Christian foundations. The nation has lost its moral compass. Rather than getting rid of abortion, we are endorsing it, with Parliament this summer decriminalising abortion by a woman at any stage of gestation. They are also seeking to go even further and enable legalised suicide.
Our leaders have no wisdom, as though the Lord has deprived them of their intelligence.
Our government is making a covenant with death, and our leaders have no wisdom, as though the Lord has deprived them of their intelligence. The madness of ‘Net zero’ reducing output of Co2, a gas of life without which no creature or plant can live, causing rising and unsustainably high energy costs, vast increases in taxation, and the huge increases in the cost of living, are all examples of the consequences of rejecting God, just as scripture describes in Job 12: 20-24.
If the lockdowns of Covid-19 were a test run for social control, the breaking of the social contract between the government and the governed is now obvious, and the electorate are having their noses rubbed in it. We are now perilously close to the trashing of a centuries-old constitutional framework and system of government which, unlike in France, has hitherto kept Britain safe from bloody revolution.
All the stars now seem to align for the first use of Blair’s 2004 Civil Contingencies Act. The contents and scope of this horror I would suggest are not for the faint hearted, but it doesn’t take too much imagination to envisage how the mainly military-aged young men from the third-world, currently housed at taxpayer expense in 4-star hotels might be used if the ordinary Brit has now had enough and civil unrest becomes widespread. Security for the migrant hotels is in most cases staffed by third world immigrants, and it is not inconceivable that they could be used in support of our police or armed forces.

Bad News
I think most of us now know that this is a pivotal and dangerous moment in our history. Here is my take on both the bad news and the good news:
-
Your access to money may soon be tied to your ‘compliance.’ As ‘Rachel from accounts’ (or her successor) tries to balance the books, expect a bank account haircut and a ban on making cash withdrawals sometime soon.
-
The lights may not always be on.
-
The supermarket shelves may not always be full.
-
Free speech in Britain is either dead or severely wounded despite the best efforts of Elon Musk.
-
Two-tier justice – already very much in evidence - may be here to stay.
-
Credible, senior establishment figures now openly state that civil war or extreme civil unrest is now likely in Britain.
Everything we see happening in our nation is being allowed by God and He has a purpose in it. Our merciful and loving God is also a God who judges. Even in times of judgment He intends to rescue the lost as He has always done. His kingdom will triumph and whatever it is that we are to endure as believers, countless thousands will come to salvation through it. We are called to watch and pray, to stand and to overcome. Matthew Chapters 24 and the Parable of the Talents from Matthew 25 are important scriptures to read again in the context of all we are seeing happening in our nation and around the world at this time.
His kingdom will triumph and whatever it is that we are to endure as believers, countless thousands will come to salvation through it.
And the Good News
Romans 10: 11-14 As Scripture says, “Anyone who believes in him will never be put to shame.” For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”
Our job description for the times ahead is right there. The question is this – are you ready?
‘Are You Ready?’ is also the title of a new booklet written by a member of this ministry team, Sarah Winbow.
In this follow up booklet to ‘Crossing Over’, Sarah brings together three vital challenges for God’s people today: the possibility of God moving in pockets of revival across the face of the earth; the preparation of the Bride to meet her Bridegroom; and a very practical guide to how to survive and thrive as the threat of persecution and the possibility of the Church having to go underground increases.
‘Are You Ready’ will be available in several different forms: it will be serialised in Prophecy Today, and it will be available shortly in book format. Please contact her directly to order your copy: sarah@issacharpeople.org
If you appreciated this article and our mission to understand the times as viewed through the lens of scripture, please do support us financially and in prayer.
