The Faith of King Charles III
Between Thrones, Faith and the Contest of Allegiances
The coronation of King Charles III in 2023, framed as both a national and spiritual event, drew worldwide attention not only for its regal splendour but also for the deep symbolism woven into its fabric. For believers with Hebraic roots and a prophetic awareness, questions arise:
Where does King Charles III truly stand with respect to Christian faith, covenantal truth, and the biblical vision of kingship?
Scripture teaches that kingship is never neutral, rulers either serve YHWH’s purposes or exalt themselves against Him (Ps 2; Dan 2:21; Rev 17). This article examines King Charles’ own words, public associations, and symbolic acts through that prophetic lens.
Biblical Kingship: A Prophetic Measure
The Hebraic Scriptures establish a pattern of kingship:
-
Kings were to uphold covenant loyalty to YHWH, guarding justice and righteousness (Deut 17:18-20; 2 Sam 23:3-4).
-
A king’s legitimacy flowed from God’s Word, not human philosophy or syncretism.
-
Israel’s prophets frequently rebuked kings who mixed true worship with idolatry (e.g. Solomon, Ahab, Manasseh).
-
Paul reminds us that “all authority is from God” (Rom 13:1), yet Revelation portrays kings who yield to the beastly system opposed to Messiah (Rev 17 - 18). Thus, a ruler’s words, rituals and alliances matter deeply.
King Charles’ Public Statements on Faith
Charles has long styled himself as ‘Defender of Faith’ rather than ‘Defender of the Faith’, signalling a pluralist embrace of many religions. While in 1994 he said he wished to protect all faiths within Britain, this departure from the historic role of monarchs as protectors of Christian orthodoxy signals a theological dilution.
This departure from the historic role of monarchs as protectors of Christian orthodoxy signals a theological dilution.
At his coronation, Charles did indeed pledge to “maintain the laws of God and the true profession of the Gospel,” yet the inclusion of multiple religious representatives at Westminster Abbey highlighted syncretism, a blurring of covenantal exclusivity that Yeshua warned against (“No one comes to the Father except through Me”: John 14:6).
The Shadow of Freemasonry and Esoteric Symbolism
Reports and photographs link Charles with Masonic circles. Freemasonry, with its syncretic symbols and oaths, has long been criticised by Christian theologians for blending pagan mystery religion with biblical imagery. The coronation itself bore echoes of Masonic ritual, particularly in the anointing and veiling, drawing questions about whether biblical typology is being faithfully honoured or esoterically repurposed.
The red-tinged first official royal portrait, (commissioned by the Drapers' Company, the City of London livery company which has been collecting royal portraits for centuries), with its unsettling aura and demonic undertones, parallels Barack Obama’s stylised portrait, both echoing occult and apocalyptic overtones rather than humility before the King of kings. In prophetic terms, such imagery is not neutral; it either glorifies the Lamb or reflects the beastly powers of Revelation.
Pagan Symbolism in the Coronation
The coronation included overtly pagan symbols:
-
The use of a ‘green man’ motif (a pagan fertility symbol) at Westminster Abbey’s entrance.
-
Inclusion of diverse faith blessings within a ceremony that once centred upon Christ’s kingship.
-
Timing connected to Beltane (a pagan festival marking fertility and fire rituals).
Charles’ longstanding affection for Islam is well documented.
In Hebraic prophetic understanding, these choices blur the line between holy and profane (Ezek 22:26). They recall Israel’s kings who blended YHWH’s covenant with Baal worship, provoking divine judgment.
Rumours of Islamic Sympathies
Charles’ longstanding affection for Islam is well documented. He has studied the Qur’an, praised Islamic civilisation (e.g. see here), and made frequent private visits to Morocco. Some claim he made a personal shahada (Islamic profession of faith), though such reports remain unconfirmed. Even without conversion, his public sympathy toward Islam, without affirming the exclusive kingship of Yeshua, raises prophetic alarms.
Joel 3 and Zechariah 12 remind us that in the end, nations will be judged by how they align themselves with YHWH’s covenant people Israel. A king who exalts Islam, or aligns with those who oppose Zion, risks standing against the God of Israel.
A Prophetic Timeline of Charles’ Spiritual Journey
The Early Signals of Pluralism (1994 - 2000s)
-
Charles publicly declared he wished to be known as ‘Defender of Faith’ rather than ‘Defender of the Faith.’
-
This marked a departure from covenantal kingship, which historically upheld the supremacy of Christ’s Gospel in the United Kingdom.
Prophetic reflection: Like Israel’s kings who tolerated high places, Charles chose inclusion over exclusivity (1 Kings 12:31-33).
A Growing Affinity with Islam (2000s - 2010s)
-
Charles studied Islam extensively, praised Islamic culture, and made regular visits to Morocco.
-
Reports circulated, though unverified, of his private recitation of the shahada.
Like Israel’s kings who tolerated high places, Charles chose inclusion over exclusivity
Prophetic reflection: While cultural understanding is commendable, a monarch’s spiritual allegiance must remain clear. Joel 3 warns that nations will be judged on how they align with Zion, not with rival gods.
The Coronation Ceremony (2023)
-
The coronation combined biblical liturgy with overtly pagan and syncretic elements.
-
Green Man imagery, Beltane timing, and interfaith blessings diluted the covenantal witness of enthronement.
-
The red-tinged portrait unveiled afterwards echoed demonic undertones, reminiscent of Revelation’s scarlet beast (Rev 17).
Prophetic reflection: Ezekiel 22:26 indicts priests for failing to distinguish holy from profane. The coronation risks becoming a prophetic symbol of that same confusion.
The Global Context: UN & Nations (2022 - Ongoing)
-
The United Nation’s ongoing hostility toward Israel aligns with Zechariah 12:2-3, where nations stumble over Jerusalem.
-
Charles’ public alignment with climate and global governance agendas raises questions about whether his kingship aligns with YHWH’s covenant or with Babylon’s system (Rev 18).
Prophetic reflection: As nations are sifted in the Valley of Decision (Joel 3:14), Charles’ throne cannot remain neutral.
A Call to King Charles III
Your Majesty, the throne you occupy is temporary; the throne of the Lamb is eternal. You stand in a long line of kings who either chose covenant faithfulness or idolatrous compromise. Hear the Word of the Lord:
“Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve YHWH with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way” (Ps 2:10–12).
As nations are sifted in the Valley of Decision, Charles’ throne cannot remain neutral.
“He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Mic 6:8).
We call upon you to:
-
Publicly affirm Jesus the Messiah as Lord and King above all.
-
Repent of syncretism and pagan symbolism that profanes the covenant God.
-
Walk in a manner worthy of your high calling, defending the Gospel of Christ, not the faiths of men.
-
Guard the land and people of Israel, for “the nation and kingdom that will not serve you shall perish” (Isa 60:12).
Prophetic Implications
Psalm 2: The kings of the earth rage and plot in vain against YHWH and His Anointed. Charles’ openness to syncretism and paganism could align him more with these “raging kings” than with the humble kingship God esteems.
-
Daniel 7: Earthly thrones are temporary; the Son of Man receives the everlasting dominion. Any earthly king who refuses to bow to Messiah risks becoming part of the beastly empires that crumble before Him.
-
Revelation 13 & 17: Imagery of rulers clothed in scarlet and participating in false worship finds disturbing echoes in Charles’ portrait and coronation motifs.
Remember that Scripture calls us to pray for kings and rulers, even as we discern their alignment.
Life Application

Discern the prophetic signs in global politics; Israel remains the epicentre.
-
Stand firm that Yeshua is the only true King, resisting cultural pressures to blend all faiths as equal.
-
Intercede for the United Kingdom, that its spiritual heritage in the Gospel is not abandoned.
-
Be alert to the prophetic times: kings and nations are being tested regarding Zion (Joel 3).
