Mental Health and Free Speech
Choosing to live under the influence of the prince of the world or the King of kings
It would appear that ominous signs that a cabal of ungodly politicians - a world-wide ‘elite’ - are deceptively determined to control people’s minds through psychological manipulation, through media, and through what has been named transhumanism (which is connecting people’s nervous systems to electronic communications intended to control thought and behaviour), are leading many believers to the conclusion that Antichrist is coming.
Fallen human nature is open to psychological seduction, and our brains and nervous systems can be controlled by electronic stimulations, but our minds are actually open to more than that. Our understanding, basic motivation, wisdom and guidance are spiritually motivated. Spiritual beings give meaning to experience and determine what we actually believe.
We are not automatons
The mind is not a physical organ. The brain is not the mind. The mind is part of the living principle in a person, part of the living soul. Spiritual relationships affect our minds through whichever divine being we have effectively given our heart to.
Atheists and secularists live under the authority of the prince of this world, whether they acknowledge it or not
Thus, spiritual relationships powerfully influence the direction of our thinking, the choices we make and how we perceive and behave. Even though people may try to get rid of such influence, they cannot. We are spiritual beings, always and inevitably either under the effective influence of the prince of this world (John 16:11) or under the influence of the King of kings and Lord of lords, who is Jesus Christ (Matt 28:18).1
Atheists and secularists live under the authority of the prince of this world, whether they acknowledge it or not, and theosophists speak of the Divine Nature of Man, represented by that same spiritual person. But if we have genuinely committed our lives to Jesus Christ and have received Holy Spirit, then the one who is living in us is greater than the one who is in the world (1 John 4:4) and He judges what is true or false, right or wrong.
Holy Spirit can override worldly temptation and coercion. But the chip under the skin (Rev 13:16) will be a final personal commitment to inevitable continuous compliance with secular manipulative forces. Acceptance of Digital ID would be a commitment to giving state government, under the predominant influence of atheists and secularists, the right to decide your fate, what you buy and sell, what you must believe, how you must behave, and whether or not you are to be accepted in society.
Hitherto in Britain, since Magna Carta 800 years ago, we have had freedom under the law in which Christianity was accorded a dignified and profoundly influential place. But the influence of the established churches has become weak by failing to abide by Holy Scripture, and rebellious forces are gaining power.
The influence of the established churches has become weak by failing to abide by Holy Scripture
We are in danger of losing our heritage. Christian influence in culture and politics is diminishing, despite the fact that both Holy Scripture and experience tell us that, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Cor 3:17) and “The spiritual man makes judgements about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgement” (1 Cor 2:15).
Mind control
We are not always in control of what comes into our minds. Unwanted stuff often breaks through. Issues at the back of our minds can restrict our freedom. But, if you want a healthy mind, you can always tell God about it and receive His guidance, mercy and healing by thankfully accepting the price His only begotten Son Jesus paid to redeem and save you. In fact, baptism in Holy Spirit gets rid of unwanted rubbish. This is the way to mental health.
What comes to mind can sometimes be confusing. We can be swayed by doubts. Complex issues can become unspeakable and then they can get buried in the unconscious mind and become the source of madness and illness. So it is surely best to open it out by beginning to try to speak as freely about it as possible with others who are not going to mess you up too much. This helps repentance.
It has become quite fashionable to use counsellors, psychotherapists or pastors to listen to such difficult buried issues. Authorities who want to control our minds, however, want to control how such professionals respond, for example through trying to stop ‘conversion therapy.’ We can no longer trust secular authorities. Because people baulk at the challenge of spiritual truth, secrets of the heart are often heard according to the hearer’s prejudices, so that what is actually received by both listener and speaker is only what each person wants to hear (2 Tim 4:3).
The commonly accepted alternative to speaking about what it seems impossible to speak about is to suppress awareness of it.
The commonly accepted alternative to speaking about what it seems impossible to speak about is to suppress awareness of it. Drugs of one sort or another are often used to facilitate this. Laws and political systems may try to stop certain things coming to light that can only come to true light in the light of Jesus. And some people get so disturbed and disturbing through putting out of mind what they cannot manage to speak about that they end up in psychiatric units or even in prisons. So we get a controlled society.
Truth that sets you free
Only those who have confessed their sin and their fallen human nature, and who have received Holy Spirit and saving grace by accepting the Lord Jesus, have the Spirit of truth which sets you free (John 8:32). Only they have the courage to hear truthfully.
Too many Christians have believed it unnecessary to listen to baleful tales of confusion, trouble, torment, violence, abuse, sin and shame. Such things can be distressing to listen to. But it is necessary to hear such things if we are to return to a free society. We can find Jesus’ healing for it all when the One Who gave His life to save us is present amongst us as in Matthew 18:20.
We can find Jesus’ healing for it all when the One Who gave His life to save us is present amongst us.
It’s a matter of loving your neighbour as yourself, with patience. In response to the question, “Who is my neighbour?” Jesus told the parable of the good Samaritan, ending with the question, “Who do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” And the reply was, “The one who had mercy on him.” To which Jesus replied, “Go and do likewise.” (Luke 10:25-37.)
Therefore, we have a godly duty to those robbed of truth who seek Jesus in their distress. Christians must be a shelter from the storm (Isa 25:4).
