‘Gangsters in Religious Robes’

As the choir sing the praises of the Palestinian cause, it’s the sound of silence on Iran

The brutal crushing of riots in Iran, with hundreds of protestors shot dead on the streets, shows us the true picture of what pro-Palestinian wokery looks like.

The world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism – backers of Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and others – have turned their guns on their own people desperate to free themselves of their wicked oppressors.

Do our left-wing luvvies, our glamorous celebrities and virtue-signalling actresses, so fond of accusing Israel of genocide, really want to be ruled by what one columnist has described as “gangsters in religious robes”?

Then they’d better start covering themselves up, for starters. Having to be clothed from head to toe is one of the harsher interpretations of Sharia Law that we risk being imposed on British women if we continue to pander to the Islamist agenda.

Yet movie stars, leaving little to the imagination, are leading the choir singing the praises of the Palestinian cause, the ‘genocide’ tag having stuck thanks to social media lies and propaganda.

Islamists are the perpetrators, not victims

In truth, Hamas used their own children as ‘human shields’ in the recent Gaza war by deliberately putting them in harm’s way so they could accuse Israel, and convince the world, that they are the real victims of the Middle East conflict.

Yet as Khadija Khan (already quoted) wrote in the Daily Mail: “Anyone who truly wants to see peace in Gaza and across the Middle East will rejoice when the Islamic Republic tumbles in Iran. Remove their proxy warmongering and real negotiations will have a chance of success. But that will also remove the excuse left-wingers exploit to disguise their own prejudice against Jewish people.”¹

Meanwhile the Ayatollahs continue their brutal suppression, not only of their own people, but,by proxy of our Jewish friends having to endure the terrifying prospect of another attempt at their annihilation. However, Iranian funding of the region’s terrorist groups will end if, as many hope, the Islamic revolution comes crashing down.

Repression of women

I was reminded this week of the contrast between Western freedom and Iranian repression as I watched the latest episode of the popular BBC TV series Call the Midwife, focused  on the 1971 era with its nurses getting excited by the emergence of Women’s Liberation and burning their bras in protest at male domination.

What about the poor women of Iran who for years dared not step outside without their hijabs perfectly in place for fear of severe repercussions, let alone mention their underwear? But we rarely see the bigger picture of our rank hypocrisy.

As Khadija put it with reference to the Golden Globes gathering of Hollywood stars, there were plenty of lapel pins on display calling for a ceasefire in Gaza (even though an uneasy truce is already in place) whereas not a word was said about the plight of ordinary Iranians.

Iranian regime a danger to UK

In another Daily Mail article, David Patrikarakos revealed the shocking truth that the Iranian regime is allowed to operate in plain sight on Britain’s streets.

Calling for the banning of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, he referred to reports of crowds gathering outside Kilburn Mosque in north London chanting their support for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. He further revealed the sinister existence of a cluster of Iranian institutions in central London, some of which enjoy charitable status and have even received public funds.

“Under the protection of British law, people rally in support of a theocracy whose security services shoot teenagers for chanting, whose prisons rape and torture, and whose judges sign death warrants after five-minute trials,” he wrote.²

Even within the UK, outspoken exiles risk death and kidnap by the Iranian regime. The IRGC, which the government refuse to proscribe, is responsible for the indoctrination of children to kill non-Muslims – even in the UK .

With the current government in thrall to Islamism, how long before an Iranian-style revolution enslaves a nation that fought so hard to keep out the Nazis?

Not long, unless we repent of our mealy-mouthed appeasement and turn back to the Judeo-Christian God who made us great. Remember, we are ‘the land of hope and glory’ for whom we prayerfully sing: ‘God who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet.’
