A Prayer of Confession
Made at the Sunday Gathering 13 September 2026

As a leadership team we thought it was appropriate to lead a corporate prayer of confession to identify with the sins of our nation, following the prophet Daniel's example in chapter 9. Whilst Israel is the only nation to have an actual Covenant with God, Daniel's principles in chapter 9 are useful for all to follow in confessing our sin.
The recent announcement by Gideon Sa'ar, Israel's foreign minister, that the Jerusalem British consulate would be closing was a result of direction taken by the Labour party (not the UK Government or Britain as a whole). This action, along with the previous one recognising a state of Palestine, was suddenly introduced by Labour, without being voted on.
And yet, the Lord continues to show signs of mercy – such as when the assisted suicide bill was voted against earlier this month.
A stark prophecy by David Noakes' foresaw the United Kingdom walking towards the edge of a precipice, when God's hand literally punched and knocked us out to save us. The featured picture from The Daily Mail in May 2010 (which a team member came across by chance) illustrates this well. Is God saying ‘That time is now’?
Many are trying to drum up fear at present. It is good to remind ourselves that we are not given a spirit of fear but of love, power and a sound mind. We are a people of hope, and need not succumb to fear.
Prayer
O LORD, great and awesome God who keeps Covenant and His promise of loving kindness for those who love Him and walk in His ways.
Today we stand in the gap as representatives of Your faithful remnant, for King Charles, his Government, the Church of this once Great United Kingdom and for ourselves.
We have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against You and turned from Your commands and regulations with laws, over many years, which run counter to Your word. Even this last week our government, currently led by the Labour Party has stood in opposition to all that you have ordained for your land of Israel, with a wicked trade boycott and demands for further partitions of Your land. We recognise that more than one hundred years ago, our nation undertook a ‘sacred trust of civilisations’ to establish a homeland in Palestine for the Jewish people. Our nation has betrayed that trust. Legality and truth have been abandoned and antisemitism is increasing.
Lord, you are always righteous in all your ways; we are ashamed of how we have let our nations drift away from You, Your laws, and statutes. This is true of all of us citizens of the four nations of the United Kingdom; and those who are scattered near and far, among other nations where they now live.
We have refused to listen to Your servants the prophets, who spoke on Your authority to our leaders, and elders past and present, our ancestors and to all the people of this land.
We have even forgotten the many times when you have saved us, rescuing us from evil during our history including during the 2nd World War, when You miraculously answered the prayers of King George VI and Your people.
So now the curses and judgements written in the Scriptures should surely be poured down on us because of our sin. You keep Your word and must do to us and our rulers exactly as You have warned. We have refused to seek Your mercy, turn from our sins, and acknowledge Your truth. We fully deserve Your judgement.
Yet in view of all your faithful mercies, Lord, we humbly ask today that you please turn your righteous anger away from the United Kingdom. These islands, our laws, and our Christian heritage, with many Godly saints, have in the past stood to represent You and Your ways. So, for the sake of these and most importantly for the sake and honour of Your Holy name, even as we have become a reproach LORD, have mercy on us. May we fulfil our destiny in You and once again be a blessing to You, Israel, and the nations. O LORD our God hear our prayer!
In Jesus’ name we pray.
