Silent Revival

• UK Evangelicals defying religious decline. A landmark study by the Evangelical Alliance UK has revealed that evangelicalism is completely defying the broader trend of religious decline in the United Kingdom. The ‘Understanding UK Evangelicals’ report estimates that 12.3 million people in the U.K. either hold to evangelical beliefs, identify with the label, or both. Evangelicals now account for approximately 64% of all practising Christians in the country. The data fundamentally challenges traditional assumptions about church attendance in the U.K. by highlighting three core trends:

1. Adults under the age of 35 are the demographic most likely to identify as evangelical and hold these theological beliefs.
2. Men make up an estimated 60% of the movement.
3. Roughly 30% of U.K. evangelicals come from ethnic minority backgrounds (especially ‘blacks’), compared to just 17% of the general U.K. adult population.

• The debate surrounding a ‘Quiet UK revival’ is reignited.  Meanwhile, a new survey by Ligonier Ministries UK offers similar reasons for optimism. It reveals that 28% of evangelicals questioned only began attending Sunday church services for the first time as adults within the last one to two years. These newcomers are disproportionately younger adults, with a particularly notable presence of men. The findings offer the clearest evidence yet that a renewed interest in Christianity – especially among younger men – is a tangible reality rather than wishful thinking. However, experts urge caution before labelling the trend a definitive nationwide revival.  
• Sweden's youth are turning to Jesus in record numbers. The scenario is equally promising elsewhere in Europe. Once among the world's most secular nations, Sweden is witnessing a striking spiritual shift among its young people. Swedish youth survey Ungdomsbarometern named Jesus "Influencer of the Year" for 2025, based on responses from over 17,000 young Swedes. Meanwhile, a SOM Institute study found that youth church attendance doubled from 17% to 34% between 2020 and 2024 — the highest rate in two decades — while belief in God among the same age group rose from 20% to 34%. The Church of Sweden also reported a historic surge in new members, with nearly 18,000 joining by November 2025, the most in decades. Analysts point to social media's person-driven culture as one factor drawing Gen Z toward Jesus as a figure of authority and meaning amid a "self-help landscape."

• Judge bans church’s baptism pool over water waste. An Anglican church in Nottinghamshire has been denied permission to use a portable full-body immersion baptistery font to fulfil what leaders described as a clear "pastoral need" for those seeking full immersion. However, Christopher Ockelton, chancellor of the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham, rejected the application, flatly declaring the practice a "needless waste of water" and insisting that parishes should instead "take a lead in the stewardship of natural resources". He added that full immersion had "no theological basis" in the Anglican church, ignoring centuries of Christian tradition modelled on Jesus’ own baptism in the Jordan River. • Church of England hosts Islamic ‘Modest Fashion Week’. St John's Church in Hyde Park, London, has drawn intense criticism after hosting an event featuring a catwalk with women in hijabs and niqabs. Phil Harris publicly condemned the decision, stating his heart was "breaking" and accusing Church leadership of being "taken for fools" for transforming a Christian sanctuary into a platform for Islamic dress.
